For a long time, I showed my work the way I thought I was supposed to. Too many pieces. Too much explanation. Too much trying to make sure people understood. My website felt crowded—and so did I. When I rebuilt my site using Systeme.io, I decided to try something unfamiliar. I chose to show less.
The Fear of Removing Work. I remember hovering over the delete button.
Each artwork felt like a piece of time, effort, and identity.
Removing it felt almost disrespectful—to myself, and to the process.
But when I stepped back, I saw something clearly:
My work didn’t need quantity. It needed space.
Choosing What to Show (With Intention). Instead of asking, Which pieces are my best? I asked, Which pieces belong together? I selected a small group of works that shared a similar mood, consistent palette and a quiet conversation between them. Placed together, they felt stronger. Systeme.io made it easy to reorder images, test layouts, and step back to see how everything felt—without locking me into a rigid gallery structure.
One of the biggest shifts I made was slowing things down visually.
I stopped stacking images tightly. I added space. I let each piece exist on its own. Writing Less (and Saying More) I used to write long descriptions under each artwork. Now, I write almost nothing. A title. Sometimes a year.
Occasionally, a single line. Anything more lives elsewhere— in conversations, newsletters, or courses. The art doesn’t need defending.
If you’re building your art page now and feeling uncertain, try this:
Choose five works. Not forever—just for now. Give them space.
Then watch how the page feels. Your website isn’t an archive.
It’s a living space.
