What to Include in a Press Kit for Your Art

Whether you're submitting to galleries, applying for a residency, or reaching out to the press, having a professional artist press kit (also called a media kit) can make all the difference. It shows you're serious, organized, and ready for opportunities. So what exactly should go into a strong, effective art press kit? Here’s a checklist to help you build one that opens doors.

Artist Bio (Short and Long Versions)

Have both a short paragraph (75–100 words) and a longer version (250–300 words) ready.

Artist Statement

This is where you go deeper into your why. Keep it under 300 words and write clearly — no jargon needed.

High-Quality Images of Your Work

Include 5–10 strong, professional images and include image captions with title, medium, dimensions, and year. Add a professional or artistic image of yourself. Bonus if it shows you working in your studio — it adds a human touch to your story.

CV or Resume

Include a well-organized document showing: your exhibitions (solo and group), residencies or workshops, press features, education and training, as well as awards or grants. Keep it clean and easy to scan. You can also add testimonials from collectors, curators, or collaborators if you have them.

Contact Information + Links

Make sure your press kit clearly includes your name, email, website or portfolio and phone number (especially for galleries or curators)

You can also include a QR code linking to your online portfolio. A well-crafted press kit saves time, sets you apart, and helps others tell your story clearly. Think of it as your artistic business card — polished, intentional, and deeply personal. You don’t have to be “famous” to be press-ready. You just need to be prepared.
